It's been a little quiet around here...sorry with Christmas and New Years and getting ready for baby I have no idea where the time went! I will update more later, I just wanted to give a quick post to introduce our son!!! He was born 10 days early and we are all doing wonderful!

Hey ya'll and welcome to my blog! My NEW Moda Bake Shop project is up today and it's called Auntie's Diamonds! I am so excited to share it with you! If you're already a follower be sure to hop on over to MBS and check out the free pattern! And if you're new, WELCOME!

This quilt was super fun to make and it uses one Layer Cake and half of a Charm Pack plus border fabrics! I used the fabric line Sophie by Chez Moi and let me tell ya, this fabric is so pretty! It measures 57" X 88" so it's a super cozy lap quilt OR you could even put it on a twin size bed!

Love that backing fabric....it was my favorite print of the entire line!

Gotta LOVE the Houndstooth pattern in all sorts of colors too, great basic to have in your stash!

This last photo is the reason I'm calling it Auntie's Diamonds. I quilted my sister's name into the inner border (SURPRISE LAUREL!!!!!) and she doesn't know until now!!! I plan on giving this to her after my son is born at his baptism because she is going to be his Godmother as well and his awesome Auntie!! SURPRISE AGAIN LAUREL!!!! :) Love you!

I am so excited that I will be in Houston on Wednesday!! Quilt Market, Quilt Festival, Baby Shower #1 here I come! I can't wait to see everyone and get inspired at Market!! I will be down there for two weeks and will be SUPER BUSY so I may not post again until after I get back! Here is the latest preggo photo of me! I will be 27 weeks tomorrow so here is my 26 week photo! Hope ya'll have a great couple of weeks....I'll post lots of Market photos when I return!

That argyle is part of the nursery! More nursery pics to come soon too, still lots of stuff to be sewn!

Habitat Challenge

The wonderful people at FreeSpirit fabrics sent out a challenge to all the modern quilt guilds willing to participate. They gave us 6 fat 1/8's of Jay McCarroll's Habitat fabric line and only using Habitat and solid fabrics we had to come up with a quilt! I plan on making an argyle quilt with Dr. Seuss fabric for my little boy's room and decided to test out my pattern with this quilt! Here is what I came up with and I really love how this quilt turned out and can't wait to make one for my little boy!! Pattern will also be available soon!

Fabric/Ribbon Wreath Tutorial

I needed a new fall wreath for my front door and got out my fabric scrap bins and decided to do something about it! I really love how it turned out and looks great on my front door! I thought I'd share a quick tutorial with ya'll because it was such an easy wreath to make!

Have a bunch of smaller scraps that you don't know what to do with?? Left over Jelly Roll and Honey Bun strips?? Ribbon remnants?? This is the perfect project for you to spruce up your home with!

Materials:

Wreath Frame of your choice

glue gun

sewing machine

fabric to cover wreath frame

fabric and ribbon scraps of various sizes: none of mine were longer than 4 inches

I started with a flat wooden wreath frame (you can get them at Michael's and other craft stores) and covered it with orange fabric.

Then I chained A BUNCH of fabric and ribbon scraps together. Fold the fabric in half wrong sides together and sew along the open edges so it makes a loop!

Here is a close up of the chaining. Chaining is when you just keep sewing pieces together without cutting the thread. It makes it a lot faster!

After I cut all the chains, I opened up each fabric piece at the seam and put hot glue right on the seam.

Then I just placed the fabric and ribbon pieces randomly around the frame until it was super full and looked like I wanted it to!!

That's it ya'll!! See I told you it was super easy and fun! Now go make one for your door! If you make one let me know; I would love to see it!

Bee Blocks and Baby!

9 of us in my guild, STLMQG, meet every month and swap bee blocks!!

July/August was Kristy's month and here are her two blocks I made.

August/September is JuliAnn's month and here are her two blocks I made.

September/October is MY month and here are the two sample blocks that I made! Yes, I cut into my Tula Pink Neptune stash...EEEEKKK!! But it felt so good and I can't wait to make a quilt with everyone's blocks!

Here are a couple shots of my growing belly! I'm 20 weeks this week but I took these pictures last week when I was at 19 weeks!! My tummy definitely is popping out a lot more! :) LOVE IT!

On Monday I will be at 21 weeks! So exciting! This little boy is going to be so spoiled (at least with quilts anyway)!!

New MBS!

Just thought I'd share these lovely fabrics that came in the mail last week from Moda! These will magically turn into my next Moda Bake Shop project (hopefully soon!) Of course they are like the most girly fabrics ever and all I can think about is having a little boy!! Ya'll should definitely buy some of this fabric line, it's so pretty and did you see that houndstooth?? LOVE!

And I don't know about you, but don't you like sleeping in scrap bins? LOL!!! I'm sewing and look to my right and see this pretty girl laying in the yellow scrap bin! Izzy decided that it was too full so she pushed some out and then layed in it! Looks comfortable right? HA! What would I do without these crazy cats?!?!

New Dress!

BOY!!!

I know it's the same photo as before but oh well!! I just wanted to let everyone know that Jon and I are having a BOY!!! We are so excited and can't wait to meet our little man! Thanks for all the prayers and well wishes! Pregnancy is going well and everything looked good at the ultrasound! Now it's time to get sewing :)

Fabrics

I have a few custom quilts coming up that I need to make by Thanksgiving and today I went fabric shopping!!! I was there for a while and came home with all of these lovelies!!

The first three photos are for custom quilts I will be working on and the last photo is of a couple awesomes that I had to get for myself. Who goes fabric shopping and doesn't buy for their stash right?? :)

MMM Swap

I participated in the Make Mine Modern Swap again!! Today was the deadline to send and I made it just in time! I highly recommend participating in this swap, it's always super fun and inspiring!

Here is what I made for my partner! She hasn't received it yet so I can't say too much about it because I don't want to give it away! I forgot to take a photo of all the goodies so hopefully she will when she gets them! I made her this pillow that was inspired by a quilt made by the amazing Tula Pink!! What do ya'll think??

Rip Rip Rip Challenge

Two meetings ago at the STLMQG we were presented with the Rip, Rip, Rip Challenge.

Here were the official rules: You must make something (quilt, table runner, market bag, etc) that is bigger then a placement using 4 of the 5 fabrics that you received during the Ripping game. You can add any additional fabrics that you choose, just make sure that each of the 4 fabrics are clearly represented somewhere in the project. You may be asked to point them out, so be prepared. The finished item must be brought to the August 13th meeting, in order for you to be eligible for any prizes.

Think creatively and have fun!!

This was a super fun challenge and here is what I came up with! I started with least lovely fabrics:

Here is what I came up with:

A cathedral windows pillow!!! I used all 5 of the fabrics I received plus I added the white solid to tone it down a bit and really love how this pillow turned out!! What do ya'll think?

Hey ya'll,

I know it's been awhile and I'm sorry! The hubby and I are pretty much all moved in to our 1st house and we couldn't be more excited!! It's everything we've always wanted and we just LOVE our house!! Once I finish organizing my sewing room (yep I have a large sewing room that is amazing) I will post some photos! First, I thought I'd give you an update on our little one! I will be 16 weeks tomorrow and this pregnancy has been wonderful! The first trimester was great, I did not have any morning sickness or throw up ever (still thanking God for that!!) the only thing was that I was SUPER tired all of the time!! That was an adjustment going from a super hyper person to being dead tired! But now I'm into the second trimester and have my energy back!! Woo hoo just in time to sew sew sew!! We find out what this little nuggest is on the 25th and I can't wait! Of course I'm making all of the nursery decor so I can't wait to find out so I can get going on that while I still can! I haven't sewn too much lately because of the move. I did make some felt food for my nephews birthday! I'll share photos of that later this week! For now I will leave ya'll with this photo of my belly! Yes, those are maternity shorts and if you're wondering, AMAZING, it's like wearing jammies all day long and not looking like a slob! :) I'm so excited to be back in blogland...I've missed it!!

Hey ya'll!!

Sorry I've been a little quiet around here....BUT I have a good reason!!! I'm 9 weeks pregnant!!! Oh, AND if that wasn't enough we're buying a house because my husband got his dream job up in STL....SOOOOOO I've been busy packing, eating, and sleeping! :) I will be a little quiet around here for the next month, we're closing in the middle of July, but promise I will try to update ya'll when I can! Not too much sewing going on...lots of packing! Thanks for all the warm wishes!!

These are our nephews Jordan and Xavier...I appliqued them shirts when I found out and this is how we told Jon's parents and sister!! The boys were so excited!!

I'm 26!

Hello everyone!!
Today is my 26th birthday!! I've had an amazing day so far: church, two mile walk with the hubby, grocery shopping (he actually went with me) and now some sewing!! I can't wait to sew! Just thought I'd pop in and share a cute photo of me and my nephews Xavier and Jordan! 26 is going to be the best year ever!! Just a prediction ; )

The Awesome Quilt Along Week Six

Oh my gosh, I can't believe that it's week six and the last steps to finish up your quilt top!! So exciting...this has been so fun ya'll!! I can't wait to see more photos of your Awesome Quilts! When you're done with your Awesome Quilt OR any steps along the way please post them to the Flickr Group!! Ok, on to the last steps!!

3. Lay out rows as shown in photo:

4. Sew rows together matching up squares, and pin in place. You will be matching up one square on each row. See photo:

-Your rows will be a little off on the ends and will need to be trimmed after all sewn together. Press all rows.

*TIP: Sew every three rows to help match up squares then sew the three sections together to complete the top.

YEAH!! Now your quilt top is finished!! WOO HOO!! Good job everyone! If I get enough requests for it I will post sometime in the first week or two of June, tutorials of quilting and binding!

Pretty Little Pouch Swap

Now that my partner has received her pouch I can finally post about the Pretty Little Pouch Swap! This was a new swap and was super fun!! We were each given a secret partner and had to make them a pouch! We answered questions and likes and dislikes and this swap was a blast! First, this is what I made for my partner! I hope she likes it! I owed her from a previous fabric swap so I ended up making her two pouches!! She said she wanted a coin purse so I sent her this! It's an Amy Butler Stash and Dash Bag made with OOP Amy Butler Fabrics

Then since I owed her from a previous fabric swap we did I made her this red and aqua pouch! It's larger than a coin purse so she could use it for a sewing kit bag or something!! Tutorial can be found here.

Second, this is what I received from Becky over at My Fabric Obsession....definitely check out her awesome blog!! She made me TWO AWESOME pouches made with Joel Dewberry yummy fabrics. Thank you SOO much Becky, I absolutely love them and have already been using them!! You're awesome!

Cathedral Windows

I taught Cathedral Windows twice and somehow only managed to get photos of the first class!! Sorry second class :( Again, we were in the NEW Sewing Lounge at the shop! Seriously, if ya'll haven't checked out the lounge yet, do it, you won't be sorry! :)

Liz and Susan took the first class and made some BEAUTIFUL Cathedral Windows!! We had a blast with this class and next time I'm in Houston I will be teaching it again!!

Stash & Dash Bag Class #2

The second Stash and Dash Bag class was with Debby, Victoria and Laurel. My dad was there to take action shots of us during the entire class! Plus, I promised Victoria that I would put lots of photos up! Again, we used the AWESOME NEW Sewing Lounge at the shop!! LOVE IT!

Stash & Dash Bag Class

I taught the Amy Butler Stash & Dash Bags twice and had a blast both times!!

The first class was with Stacey and my dad wasn't there to take any action shot but we did get a finished project shot!! We used the New Sewing Lounge at the shop! Ya'll definitely need to check out the Sewing Lounge if you haven't already!

She also finished up this adorable little dress for her daughter from a previous class! I heard she saw the Easter Bunny in this dress...how perfect is that??

Preschool Quilt

My mother-in-law teaches preschool at our church and earlier this year we decided to make a quilt that will be auctioned off in some way!! I found this Bible verse: Psalm 96:12 and immediately knew what to do! I had each of the preschool kiddos sign and color a leaf then I turned it into this! Lots of applique and lots of quilting! I had a lot of fun making this and really enjoyed quilting it!! What do ya'll think? I hope it raises a lot of money for the school!

Houston Fun!

Over the next week I will be posting LOTS of photos from all the classes I taught while I was in Houston for two weeks! I had such a blast sewing with ya'll and can't wait to come back!!! We always used the NEW Sewing Lounge at SunFlower Quilts and it made sewing/classes so much fun and easy with all the space and big tables we were able to use!

First up, my good friend and amazing quilter Mari and I made Amy Butler Gumdrop Pillows and they were so much fun! Be sure to check out her blog...she's got a lot of good stuff going on over there!! Mari made a Mickey Mouse pillow for her adorable son Daniel and I made a baseball one because my hubby and I LOVE baseball!

The first photo is what I used to stuff the Gumdrop Pillows that I made....I got a lot of questions about what I used so I made sure to get a photo! I bought the biggest bag I could find and ended up using one for the small pillow and two for the large pillow...hope that helps ya'll if you're making one!

Awesome Quilt Along Week Five

This has been such a BUSY week and I'm ready to work on my Awesome Quilt! Okay guys are ya'll ready for some top assembly?? I AM! Now that Blogger is back and up and running, I can finally post this weeks steps!! Here we go!

TOP ASSEMBLY:

1. Sew three rows as follows:
one-14.5” stripe row THEN one square row THEN one-14.5” row.

-You should have three rows total like this. Press.

2. Sew six rows as follows:
one- 28” stripe row THEN one square row

-You should have six rows total like this. Press.

CRAZY BUSY!

So I've been pretty quiet around here and I've had a good reason...I promise!! I've been frantically working on a quilt that will be at Market in Salt Lake City this weekend!! If you're going please take a photo of my quilt hanging up and email it to me! PLEASE :)

I'm a member of the St. Louis Modern Quilt Guild and two weeks ago a local fabric artist, Laura Gunn, contacted us and asked up to make a quilt with her new fabric line called Painters Canvas. I was supposed to keep it quiet...until now!! WOO HOO...it's been hard to keep a secret from ya'll!

Laura's fabric collections include Lantern Bloom, Poppy, Magnolia Lane and Painter's Canvas. Michael Miller Fabrics will be showing her new lines Magnolia Lane and Painter's Canvas at the International Quilt Market in less then three weeks. Laura contacted our guild and proposed a crazy idea. Would any of the STLMQG members be interested in making a modern quilt using her Painter's Canvas line. The quilts will be photographed, shown at market and later returned to the owner. Five of us took on the challenge to make a lap size quilt in two weeks (well more like 1 1/2 weeks we got the fabric last Saturday).

The Awesome Quilt Along Week Four

Hey ya'll, we're already on week four can you believe it?! We will have two more weeks left and then your quilt top will be done! If you're interested I will post a machine quilting and binding tutorial....I want to see how many of you are interested in a tutorial for those so let me know if you are!! As always, don't forget to post any photos during your quilt along process in my Flickr Group!! Okay here is the next step!

3. Mix and Match your pieces and sew together as follows:

Sew three 14.5” pieces together six times. Sew three 28” pieces together six times.

-You should have 6- 14.5” stripe rows and 6- 28” stripe rows.

Woo hoo next week we will start top assembly!! See ya'll then!

Awesome Quilt Along Week Three

Hey ya'll....sorry for the late post...I just got back home from Paducah...ugh no more driving! Ok let's get to the next steps!! Don't forget to post photos in the Flickr group!!
10. Sew three completed blocks together. Make sure the long 7 1/4” sides on top and bottom. See photo:

11. Repeat until you have nine complete rows. Press.

FOR STRIPES:
1. Choose 18 JR strips and set aside the remaining JR strips for binding. (We chose all the strips that had patterns and set aside the solid strips for binding).

2. Cut the following from each of the 18 JR strips:
one- 14.5” piece
one- 28” piece

-You should have 18- 14.5” pieces and 18- 28” pieces.

My Mom and I went to the Quilt Show in Paducah, KY the last two days. We had a lot of fun and got some really good deals! This was our first time attending the Paducah Quilt Show and we're beat! The show still went on even though there had been a TON of rain....the sun came out just in time for the show! I'm super tired but wanted to share a photo of the fabrics I got! Enjoy the eye candy!

MMM Swap

I'm finally home from my two weeks in Houston! Mom and I drove yesterday and could now be considered storm chasers! We drove from Houston, TX through east Texas, Arkansas and southeast Missouri....yeah if you haven't been watching the weather....it was horrible!! Tornados ALL around us! God was definitely with us on our journey and we made it to my house safely and at 4 in the morning! My normal 11 hour drive turned into a stormy 15 hour drive UGH!!
On the brighter side when I got home I got to see my Make Mine Modern swap package in person! My hubby Skyped me so I could see all the goodies when they arrived but today I got to see them in person and touch them!! WOO HOO!! If you don't know what Make Mine Modern definitely go check out the Flickr Group....it's pretty much the most fun swap ever! I was just asked to be a swap mama for the next round and I'm super excited to get started....go sign up for all the fun!!

The Awesome Quilt Along Week 2!

Hey ya'll welcome to week 2 of The Awesome Quilt Along! I can't wait to start seeing your blocks! Don't forget to join my Flickr Group and upload photos of your progress!! If you're just joining us go to the Awesome Quilt Along page at the top of my blog under my header for all the previous posts like the supply list and week 1! This is a join anytime quilt along, so join in on the fun!! Here we go!

7. Sew one 2 ½” square in the middle of two matching 3” pieces along the 2 ½” side. Press.

8. Next, sew two matching 7 1/2” pieces on both long sides to make a block.

9. Repeat steps 6-8 until you have 27 completed blocks. Press all blocks. Square up/trim all blocks to 6 1/2" X 7 1/4".

Amy Butler's New Pattern The Charm Clutch

Today I made two of Amy Butler's new Charm Clutches!! I love this bag and this pattern was great! I made one as a shop sample and one as my new bag!! It's hard to choose but I think I'll use the mustard one for myself! I made them in the NEW Sewing Lounge at SunFlower Quilts today!! I love having a large, quiet space to sew in!!

The Awesome Quilt Along Week One

Hey ya'll!!!

Do you have your Jelly Roll ready?? Good! Here are the steps for week one, we're going to start with the blocks! I can't wait to see everyone's fabric choices! Don't forget to upload any photos of your progress to the Flickr Group!!

My mom and I are making NEW Awesome Quilts in for the quilt along too!! I'm using a Laurel Jelly Roll from Moda. You may remember the quilt I made for my dad for Christmas using Laurel fabric...if not read HERE from my previous post.

1. Choose 16 JR strips

2. Take 13 JR strips and cut each as follows:
four- 7 1/2” pieces
four- 3” pieces

3. Take the 14th JR strip and cut as follows:
two- 7 1/2” pieces
two-3” pieces

4. Cut the 15th JR strip as follows:
14- 2 ½” pieces

5. Cut the 16th JR strip as follows:
13- 2 1/2" pieces

6. Mix & Match the 2 ½” middle squares with two each of the larger pieces (same fabric). You should have 27 ready to go to start sewing. We will start sewing them next week, but you're more than welcome to jump ahead and sew them!

The Awesome Quilt Along Supply List

I am so excited about this Quilt Along!! If you're participating please join my Flickr Group and you can post photos of your process and final quilt photos. If you already have your jelly roll take a photo and post that on Flickr!!! If you have no idea what Flickr is go to my Tutorial HERE for starting a blog/flickr!! This is going to be so much fun!

Supplies you'll need:

1 Jelly Roll (or 40 different 2 1/2 X WOF strips)

3 yards for backing fabric

Batting at least 55 X 60 (I used Warm & Natural)

Binding fabric is included in the Jelly Roll!!

Basic Sewing Supplies:

Rotary cutter, mat and ruler

Basting Pins or Spray Adhesive

Thread for piecing and thread for quilting

Sewing Machine

Iron and Ironing Board

Simple enough right? The entire quilt top uses Jelly Roll strips and that even includes the binding! WOO HOO!! This is going to be so much fun!! Remember this is a join anytime....sew at your own pace quilt along. I will be posting every Friday with the next steps for the next few weeks. So next Friday I will post cutting instructions! That will give everyone plenty of time to work! Does that work for everyone; give ya'll enough time to get fabrics?? Sound good?? Ok ya'll, whose interested in a quilt along??

I've received a bunch of emails from people who have made my Awesome Quilt from Moda Bake Shop (and they look amazing!) and also some emails from people with questions! I've spent all weekend fixing the pattern and I'm finally done with only a couple slight changes to make it even better!! When I originally wrote the pattern it was around the time of The International Quilt Festival in Houston and needless to say it was a super busy time. I'm sorry if anyone has had any problems with it and the new/slightly different tutorial will be better!

I figured to celebrate we should have a quilt along!! Whose in?? I want to see who is interested and will be making a Flickr Group for people to join in on too! This will be a join anytime quilt along and hopefully really fun!! We can post photos along the way in the Flickr group to see everyone's progress and finished Awesome Quilt!! If you're interested leave me a comment letting me know and start spreading the word!!

I will be posting a materials list by the end of the week so you know what you'll need! I will say for the top you will only need one Jelly Roll!! Then with a series of posts I will post the new tutorial for The Awesome Quilt! Let's do it!!!

Gumdrop Pillows and a NEW Shelf!

First up, a local video store was closing and I saw a sign on the window saying shelves for sale. I called them this afternoon and picked one up!! For $15 I got this awesome 7 X 4 foot shelf!! It used to hold DVDs on it and now it's my fabric storage!!! SCORE!!! After spending all day organizing my sewing room I still have lots to do! I will post photos soon after I'm done re-organizing that room!

Yesterday, I made a couple of Amy Butler's Gumdrop Pillows!! I've had this pattern for a few years and finally got around to making them! I absolutely love this pattern; it was super easy and a quick project! I see many more of these in my future! (Maybe even a few for a certain photographer that I know) ;)

Amy Butler's Stash & Dash Bags

This weekend I finished up my class samples for when I'm in Houston. As soon as we got home from church on Sunday I started making these Stash & Dash Bags by Amy Butler. I made a total of 7 bags and I love them!! The pattern is very easy to understand and the bags are super cute! The pattern has three different sizes to choose from: Toiletry Bag (larger size), Makeup Bag (medium size), and a Coin Purse (small size). I'm teaching this Amy Butler Stash & Dash Bags pattern at SunFlower Quilts in April. We will be making the Toiletry Bag (large size) in class. For more information about the class go HERE. I'm teaching Amy Butler's Chelsea Bags as a class at SunFlower Quilts in April. Here is the one I made and I really like it!! Magazine Madness!!

So this lovely magazine came in the mail today from Lissa over at Moda!! It's the brand new magazine just for precuts like Jelly Rolls, Layer Cakes, Charm Packs...you get it!! This magazine is awesome with lots of awesome patterns and ideas!! I was so excited to get it...

...then I got to the back and saw the Moda Bake Shop ad on the back over!!

...and if you look closer (right next to the MBS logo) that's me and my Ruffle Quilt!! AHHHHH I am so excited!! Thank you Lissa and everyone at Moda....again I will say...ya'll are amazing!!

Then, at our April meeting of the STLMQG we're having a Mug Rug Swap!! What is a Mug Rug you ask? It's a little quilt kind of like a coaster. It's small and you can fit your mug and a cookie on it! This is also secret...we drew names and this is what I came up with for my partner!! I hope she likes it!

MD Anderson Ovarian Cancer Charity Quilt

I was asked to particiapte in making a quilt to help raise money for women's cancer research. I was given 6 fat quarters of Cherrywood fabrics that I had to use in the quilt and I could use only 30% other fabrics. I only used the Cherrywood fabrics for the quilt top. These fabrics were so easy to work with and were so soft. I really enjoyed working with the Cherrywood fabics. I was asked to create a quilt that would be donated to MD Anderson Cancer Center's 2011 Online Quilt Auction Promoting Gynecologic Cancer Awareness.

All the quilts will be on display at MD Anderson in Houston, Texas during the month of September. September is Ovarian Cancer/Gynegologic Cancer Awareness month.

Quilts will then be featured in an online quilt auction October 26th-November 9th 2011. You can view the online quilt aucion HERE. The quilt project and 2011 online quilt auction benefit the Blanton-Davis Ovarian Cancer Research Program and the Uterine Cancer Research Program at The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center. Through innovative research, these programs aim to develop effective screening methods and ultimately a cure for ovarian and uterine cancer. The online auction also raises awareness for cervical cancer and the BRCA1 and BRCA2 genetic predisposition which increases the risk for developing both ovarian and breast cancer.

I decided to go the more simple route with the quilt top and did a lot of detailed quilting. I feather quilted a large ribbon in the center of the quilt with the word hope in the middle and then echo quilted around the entire ribbon! I hope you like it and I really hope it helps raise money for women's cancers!!

The Ruffle Quilt: The ruffles make this cute quilt! In this class you will learn how to use your ruffle foot for your sewing machine (if you don’t have one no biggie). By the end of class you should be able to finish the quilt top for the Ruffle Quilt. The Ruffle quilt is featured in the April 2011 issue of "Quilter's World" magazine!! Basic English Paper Piecing: Have you ever wanted to know how to make the traditional Grandmother's Flower Garden quilt? Learn how to do the English Paper Piecing technique! It is easy and addicting, plus you can take it with you where ever you go. It is a great hand technique. No sewing machine required. Dates: April 14th OR April 19th

Cathedral Windows: In this class you will learn the Cathedral Windows technique using your sewing machine (if you are interested in learning how to do it by hand let me know and I can show you that as well). I will take you step by step to make Cathedral Windows using folding techniques with some tricks along the way to make it easier! Dates: April 21st OR April 23rd

Dresden Plate: In this class you will learn the traditional technique of the Dresden Plate with a modern twist. You will also learn how to echo quilt and by the end of class have a close to finished wall hanging. Dates: April 16th OR April 20th

Amy Butler's Stash & Dash Bags: Dainty and practical. Pack lightly with this trio of compact bags and you're ready to go! In this class you will learn step by step how to make Amy Butler’s Stash & Dash Bags. You will learn how to install a zipper and complete the Large Toiletry Bag by the end of class. Finished size of bag 10” wide X 7” tall with a 5 ¾” handle on the side. Dates: April 15th OR April 19th

After teaching some sewing classes this past weekend and just being in the shop, I got a lot of questions about the whole blog world and world of Flickr. Dresden Plates

I've had Dresden Plates on my to-do list for a while now and I finally got around to making one today!! I would just like to say that I LOVE them! I used a bunch of blue scraps, gray background and turned it into a wall hanging. I added my own personal touch with a GIANT yo-yo in the center...I think it gave it a little something extra and more fun! Let me know what you think!

Happy Valentine's Day!!

I thought I'd share a few photos with ya'll before I head to Houston!! I'm leaving for Houston in the morning with my sister-in-law Rachel and my two nephews Xavier and Jordan! I cannot wait!! If you're in the Houston area and want to learn how to do cathedral windows, I'm teaching a class on Saturday and there are a couple spots left! All the info is HERE. I don't know if ya'll have been watching the news lately...but just in case you haven't....this is what's going on at my house in Farmington, Missouri!! UGH! At least we still have power (for now) so I've been able to sew all day since we're stuck inside! :)

Baby Quilt and A Class!

I showed ya'll a sneak peak of the applique on this quilt a few days ago and now it's finished and on it's way to it's owner!! I really love how this quilt turned out!! Super cute and really fun!! I hope little Jackson likes it!

I used this cute paw print for the back since the little guy's nursery is puppy dog themed!

Next up, I realized that I never showed ya'll the pillows I made for my mother-in-law for Christmas! I love Cathedral Windows...lots of work but totally worth it!! Easy & Fast Heart Garland Tutorial

Easy &Fast Heart Garland Tutorial

Supplies:

1 Valentine’s Charm Pack or Valentine’s colored scrap fabrics

Rick Rack OR Ribbon

Scrap Batting pieces about 5” X 5” (large enough for charm square)

Pinking Shears

Matching Thread

Directions:

1. Choose two charm squares (one for front of heart and one for back of heart) and one piece of batting.

2. Trace a heart shape on all three pieces (2 fabrics and 1 batting) and cut out with pinking shears.

3. Layer one fabric wrong side up then put rick rack on top of fabric leaving a few inches from the end. Next put batting on top of rick rack and then put the other fabric heart on top right side up. This is making a quilt sandwich with the two fabrics, batting, and rick rack.

4. Quilt as desired. This would be a great time to play with fun stitches on your sewing machine that you’ve never used before!

5. Continue until you have as many hearts as you desire, remembering to leave a few inches between the hearts.

Your garland is now finished, hang and enjoy!!

Jon's best friend Jimmy suggested that I make his 2 1/2 year old Daughter Charli a dance bag for Christmas!! I decided to make her a tutu dance bag and it turned out super cute!! Here are some photos of the finished product!! I hope she likes it!

Christmas Quilts

I made a total of 4 quilts for Christmas presents this year ( I know, I know I'm a crazy person!) but they turned out really cute, even if I was finishing hand sewing on binding for the last quilt in the car on the way to church on Christmas Eve :) Here are photos of all the quilts!

Quilt #1 was for my Daddy!! Back story with this my Dad is retired and now helps my Mom run the quilt shop! With that said, my sister's name is Laurel and this particular line of Moda fabric is named Laurel; he loved this fabric line and pretty much hoarded the entire collection (and I believe my mom had close to every bolt in the store). Not only does he have yardage but he also has multiple charm packs and jelly rolls! He has not made anything with this fabric because he just wants to keep it in his stash :) SOOOOO my mom and I sneakily went into his precious Laurel stash and I made an entire lap quilt for him!! He had no idea that we even took any fabric (that's how much he has). Needless to say he was really excited when he opened up his Laurel quilt on Christmas!!! Oh yeah, and he wasn't upset that we took fabric from his stash :) I love you Daddy, you make me laugh....always have!!!

Pattern: Easy Lap Quilt

Quilt #2 was a quilt for my sister-in-law Erica!! Erica turned 13 this July and decided that she needed to redo her bedroom!! SOOOO I of course said she needed a new quilt!! I took Erica to the quilt shop and she picked out all the fabric I used for the blocks in the center. This quilt turned out huge because I wanted it to fit on her full sized bed with plenty of room on the sides so she wouldn't need a bed skirt. I love how fun this quilt turned out!!! Thanks for the inspiration Erica, love you!!

Here is a photo to show how big this quilt really is, my dad on the left is 6'3"!!!

Quilt #3 was a quilt for my nephews Xavier and Jordan. Their favorite book is Eric Carle's Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See! I found this Brown Bear fabric back in September and IMMEDIATELY knew that I wanted to make them a quilt for Christmas!! I love how bright this turned out!! Right after they opened it, Jordan the 1 1/2 year old, rolled and rubbed is face on it, ran and got a book and sat in his mommy's lap to read a story!! Then the next day, Xavier decided to play a Twister type game with it!!! Awh, how I love those boys!!! They make quilting even more fun!! Thanks for always being my guinea pigs to test out my new quilt ideas boys! :)

Quilt #4 took the longest! This quilt was for Jon's Grandma Norma who recently had to move to a nursing home because Grandpa Ruben went to live with our Lord in Heaven!! My husband Jon on the way down to the farm for Grandpa's funeral thought of making a quilt or something with Grandpa's shirts and I thought what a great idea!! So we gathered a bunch of his shirts and I made a quilt for Grandma's bed at the nursing home!! Grandma has made MANY MANY quilts for everyone so we thought it would be nice to make her a special quilt! All of the blocks in the center are made from Grandpa's shirts!! It was so awesome when she saw it, she totally knew they were his shirts!! It was fun at Christmas as a family looking at the quilt and remembering who gave Grandpa what shirts and when he wore what!! Mueller Family I love ya'll and it was so great seeing ya'll on the farm on Christmas!

My New Years Resolution last year was to make one quilt each month to have a total of 12 quilts by the end of 2010 and I DID IT!! I actually made way more than 12; I made close to 20 quilts this year and that makes me super excited!!! There is one quilt photo that I didn't add because it's my next Moda Bake Shop project! I think I ended up making 3 of just my Ruffle Quilt! Some of these quilts I haven't shared with ya'll yet because they were Christmas presents and I wanted them to be secret! Santa was very good to me this year!!! I got 16 yards and 3 charm packs of AMAZING Tula Pink and Amy Butler fabrics!!!! YEAH I am soooooooo excited and can't wait to come up with something to make with all of these gorgeous fabrics!! The top row is Tula Pink Parisville and the bottom row is Amy Butler Soul Blossoms and 2 charm packs of Tula Pink Flutterby (my all time favorite fabric line that is really hard to find and out of print)!!! Thank you to everyone who gave me fabric for Christmas; it totally made my day! Love ya'll!!

Swapping is FUN!!

Ok, so I've been sewing like crazy to finish stuff up for Christmas....photos will be posted soon of all the goodies I've been making. But for now I wanted to share all the fun swapping I've been doing.

First up, I did my first ever Modern Swappers this year and it was SOOOO much fun. I've already posted photos of what I sent to my partner...but here is what I got today!! The rules were you put a half yard of fabric in a bag with your name and then you pick someone else's bag and you can add another half yard of fabric to make something special for your partner!! So, the lovely and talented Cara of Me a Mom? got my bad and I got hers!! Be sure you check out her awesome blog!

I have been SUPER BUSY sewing for Christmas (I'm doing a 95% homemade Christmas this year....geez). While I can't post any photos of what I'm working on due to my family checking my blog and I don't want them to see anything until Christmas....I can post some photos for my Modern Swappers partner!!

This is the first post from Market that I will be posting on my blog! Mom and I got so many great ideas and can't wait to share everything we saw! This first post, I will be showing my three favorite designers in the whole world! I hoard all of their fabrics because I just love to look at them for inspiration! (I will be going in alphabetical order just to be fair!)

First up, The Amazing Amy Butler! My mom and I had the pleasure to meet Amy Butler at Quilt Market and she was the sweetest person ever! It's so great meeting your fabric idols and they end up being so down to earth!! It makes buying all of her products even more worth it! Thank you Amy for being so awesome and talking with my mom and I; it was a pleasure meeting you again! Her booth won 1st place this year and below are photos so you can see why! Her new fabric line is called Soul Blossoms and is amazing!

Next up, the Super Sweet Anna Maria Horner! Anna was so cute and I loved talking with her! She took the time to talk with my mom and I and her mom was also there too! It was so inspiring seeing all the mother/daughter duos at Market! Anna was nice enough to sign my book that I've had of hers called Seams to me! If you haven't seen that book...get it...it's awesome! Her new fabric line is called Innocent Crush and it's gorgeous!

My mom and I have been to her mom's shop in Missouri called The Quilt Shoppe and she remembered us! How fun is that? Our bags we were carrying were made from Tula's previous fabric lines and she noticed right away!! I LOVED talking with her and she even said she wanted to take me home with her!! OK, yes please....I will gladly live in your studio as long as I can bring my husband and three cats :)!! Thanks Tula for being so RAD!

I wanted to let everyone know that at the shop we have the Amy Butler Trunk Show and it's AWESOME!! It's really cool seeing all of her quilts and bags in person; they are so pretty! Plus, we have some of her fabrics for sale (they're going FAST)!!

I've already made a couple pillows with her Love line and they look so cool!

The first pillow is applique and the pattern is coming soon! Here are photos of the front and back.

The next one is going to be a pillow....haven't sewn it together yet but I will post a finished photo later tonight (after I'm done)! The pattern is also coming and I will let ya'll know when both patterns are ready and in the shop! I just learned the cathedral windows technique and I am obsessed!! One of my mom's customers Evelyn (she's basically family) taught me how to make them yesterday and I LOVE her...she is so good at everything, so THANK YOU EVELYN!! Patterns are available here.

Updates and a (short) Break

Hey Ya'll,

First, my hubby and I are going to CANCUN from this Friday-Monday! Can you believe it? My hubby won the trip through his company and I am SO proud of him! It was a national sales competition and he was the ONLY Assistant District Manager to WIN in the entire nation! Is that not the coolest thing ever? Oh yeah, and the WHOLE trip is paid for! AHHH....I don't feel that fancy to have a trip paid for, but CAN'T wait!! I just needed to brag about my husband for a little bit because I am SOOOO PROUD of you!! LOVE YOU JON!! Needless to say I will not be blogging for the next week probably; sorry guys!!

Second, after we get back I will be hopping in my car and heading down to Houston for Market/Festival and to help out at the shop to prepare for Quilt Festival! By the way, if you're planning on going too our shop, SunFlower Quilts, is only 15 minutes north of downtown and I'd LOVE to meet you!! Here is a map to the shop! I will be down there for three weeks! BUSY BUSY BUSY and not sure how much blogging I will get done, but I will try my HARDEST to keep ya'll updated! Plus, I will be taking TONS of photos to share with ya'll from Market; don't worry!!

Third, my next Moda Bake Shop project is schedule for November 6th!! YEAH...WOO HOO! It's called "Awesome" and it's a lap quilt. I will have a giveaway when it comes out so be on the look out!

Lastly, I made these cute needle holders today out of hexagons (ya'll know how I LOVE hexagons)! My friend Cara, from STLMQG told me about them and I am so glad she did! Thanks Cara!! Check out her blog it's super cute and inspiring!

On Saturday, after the second St. Louis Modern Quilt Guild meeting I got some sewing done! Xavier was over and he was super interested in my sewing machine/bobbins! Xavier just turned three and he is super curious about everything. He LOVED counting and telling me what color all my bobbins were and it totally made my day! Then after he had enough bobbin counting he sat right next to me and kept saying "ready.....go" everytime I would stop and start sewing! This was pretty much my favorite sewing day ever! He makes me heart melt :)

My sewing machine after my quilt top was done. This happened while I was ironing....but look he totally put the purple one in the right spot (since I showed him how to wind a bobbin) So SMART!

Name Tag

Saturday is our second St. Louis Modern Quilt Guild Meeting....if you live in the area you should come it's so much fun! Anywho...we decided at our first meeting that we should all make our own name tags and whoever did would have chances to win door prizes!! Nephew's Quilt

The baby shower for my sister-in-law Katie was September 26th so now I can finally post photos on my blog of the quilt I made for our new nephew (due date November 20th). They chose greens and blues for the nursery and Katie loves circles so here is the quilt that I came up with! Can't wait to have a photo with our nephew when he is born!

So my husband left early this morning and will be gone all week for work in Kentucky! I sense A LOT of sewing in my future (hopefully)! I finished one quilt top today that I can't show yet because it will be a MBS project! What I can tell you that the name of the quilt is "Awesome" and I'm in LOVE with it! Ok, enough teasing. During the middle of my all day sewing extravaganza, my sweet little Izzy decided that she needed attention! She jumped on my lap and yelled at me...here is a cute photo :) I love sewing and kitties; they are my favorite :)
