Ovarian Cancer Online Quilt Auction

The online auction starts in less than a week!!! Its time to start the countdown! 6 days and counting! In the meantime-------------------
PLEASE VOTE for your favorite Cherrywood quilt at http://on.fb.me/1fCSTqJ
Cherrywood Hand-Dyed Fabric donated 24 packets of fat eighths from their "Minnesota Bundle", which includes colors from lake blue to forest green to golden brown to barn red.
We invited 24 fiber artists to design and create a quilt specifically for the MD Anderson Ovarian Cancer Quilt Project. It's been amazing to see what beautiful, unique quilts were created from the same packet. Thank you to all of our quilters.

Cherrywood Challenge

You might remember my post from back in February about the Ovarian Quilt Cancer Project, if you don't or need a refresher you can find my post HERE!
As part of the Ovarian Quilt Cancer Project, I'm participating in the Cherrywood Challenge again! What is that you ask? Well...
In 2011, Cherrywood Fabrics donated hand-dyed teal fabric which inspired the inception of the Cherrywood Challenge. Local quilters were invited to create original wall hangings using these fabrics.
Quilts were on display at the Quilt Guild of Greater Houston’s event at the Stafford Centre and on display at MD Anderson where employees, patients and visitors voted in person on their favorite Cherrywood Challenge quilt. Facebook Fans voted online and photos of each quilt were sent to Cherrywood Fabrics in a power point presentation for their professional vote.
We are proud to have Cherrywood Fabrics partner with us again for the 2013 Online Quilt Auction.

They sent a Fat Eighth bundle with 8 different colors
The rules were:
Use only Cherrywood fabrics with no more than 30% of other fabrics. Quilts can be of any shape, but the length + the width of the quilt cannot be less than 48 inches nor more than 120 inches. A round quilt cannot have a diameter greater than 40 inches. (Curator’s Note: any shape is acceptable, you can use scalloped edges and non-traditional designs, but the quilt must hang well from a sleeve with no other support or pins.)
Here is what I came up with: I'm calling it Happy Trails

I had a lot of fun Free Motion Quilting this!

And here is what the back looks like, I just pieced what was left over.

Hopefully this will help raise money for the Ovarian Quilt Cancer Project and help raise awareness!

Looking for quilts

Hi ya'll!
I hope everyone has had a great week so far, it's been pretty busy at our house this week which didn't allow for much sewing.
Anywho, I wanted to take a minute and share with ya'll a very important project that my mom and I have been involved in for many years.  It's the Ovarian Quilt Cancer Project and it auctions off quilts to raise money for all women's cancers. We are on the board with this awesome project and it's something we care very deeply for.  The quilt auctions are held in November every other year.

The quilt project and 2013 online quilt auction will benefit the Blanton-Davis Ovarian Cancer Research Program at The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center. Through innovative research, this program aims to develop effective screening methods and ultimately a cure for ovarian cancer. The online auction also raises awareness for the BRCA1 and BRCA2 genetic predisposition which increases the risk for developing both ovarian and breast cancer.

This coming November is the next one and we are looking for lovely quilts to be donated.  This is where ya'll come in.  If you have any quilts laying around or any works-in-progress that would want to finish up and donate we would LOVE to have them! Maybe you want to learn a new quilting technique that you saw online, well here is a perfect excuse to try it! Quilts can be any size or shape and any color under the sun! Quilts can be in any category as well: modern, traditional, art, applique. The deadline for receiving quilts in June 1, 2013 and we would greatly appreciate ANY that you're willing to donate! Plus, who couldn't use a tax write off too?!

If you would like to donate a quilt (or quilts) please print off a Quilt Donation Form that I've attached as a google document and fill it out and send with your quilt by June 1st!
Please pass the word along to your friends and quilt guilds and help spread the word about women's cancer research!  Thanks for your consideration and I know ya'll will come up with some beautiful quilts!
If you have any questions, please feel free to email me: jamie@sunflower-quilts.com

Here is one that I donated in 2011 if you're needing a little inspiration!

I had fun with FMQ and trying new quilting techniques!

More quilts and my cutie!

I wanted to share two more quilts that I've been working on.  The first on was a quilt I made for a craft fair back in November.  It was a simple quilt so I decided to do a lot of fun quilting on it! I'm pretty sure it took me longer to quilt it than piece it!

The second quilt was very special for me to make.  My husband's best friend's Aunt (still with me?) was recently diagnosed with breast cancer.  I'm on the board with MD Anderson quilt auction and we raise money/auction quilts for women's cancer research.  Until now, it never touched me so close to home!  She's started her treatments and during those two hour treatments at the hospital she gets cold.  What better way to stay warm than a new quilt!  I whipped this one up for her and gave it to her last weekend! We love you P, and continually pray for you everyday; your strength is inspiring!

On a brighter note, my not so little boy turned one last month!!! I can't believe how much he's changed since those first photos of him!  Top photo he was 5 days old and bottom photo he was one year old!

Happy Monday, and have a great week!
