Play Trains!

I would like to interrupt the normal quilting/sewing blog posts with some cuteness and trains! My 2 1/2 year old son, Jared LOVES to play trains!!!  Yesterday I decided to make some fun scenes for his wooden train tracks to make them even more fun!  I didn't glue the track pieces to the cardboard because I wanted to reuse them if needed. With his help this is what we came up with.  I left him help with a lot except of course the hot glue gun!  He painted, put glitter on the wet paint, put stickers and animals in their places, etc...

If you want to make your own, here is what you need:
Cardboard Boxes (I got mine from Aldi's but you could also get some at Sam's Club)
Paint
Hot Glue
Paint Brushes
Craft Supplies

Craft Supplies we used: pipe cleaners, foam stickers, glass rocks, rocks, fake leaves and plants, sticks from our yard, glitter, poms, etc…
I traced the wooden track pieces on the cardboard before I did anything to the cardboard.  That way I knew where the tracks were going and left enough room for them.

The Scenes:

A zoo!
There are LOTS of different animals in our zoo and Jared had fun picking out all of the animals. We painted different sections to make it seem like a real zoo.  I hot glued fake leaves and plants all around as well as real sand in the wet paint by the water. Jared had fun putting all the stickers around the zoo.

My favorite might be the monkeys hanging from the stick.

Next we have an Ocean! We put glitter in the wet paint to make the water sparkle, as well as real sand in the beach area.  I hot glued some real sea shells that we collected at Galveston Island last summer!

Look at the cute shells!!

The farm!  I painted a barn, pond and plenty of pasture.

Jared added lots of cow, horse, pig and chicken foam stickers all around the farm.

Lastly, we have a Dr. Seuss/colors & shapes land.  I had some flash cards from the dollar bin at Target so we decided to use those for this one.

We used LOTS of brightly colored paint, poms and pipe cleaners.

Another shot of the set up.  Daddy got in on the fun too and built Jared this awesome track with the boxes!

I'd love to see your boxes if you make one and have fun!!! Great summer activity with the kiddos!

Jared's Dresser

So I found this dresser at a thrift store for like $15!  It looked a little scary, but I figured that for $15 I could totally fix it! Here is what is started out looking like!

Gross stains all over it.

Gold handles.

And here is what it ended up looking like after lots of sanding and painting!! My awesome hubby said I should paint the drawers different colors and I'm so glad I took is advice! Those gross gold handles....NO MORE...a little spray paint does wonders!

Here it is in all it's glory in Jared's room!! I'll post photos in the next day or so of Jared's entire nursery! I love his nursery so much and he seems to have fun it in too! Have a happy Monday!

Pincushions

Yesterday and today I've been cleaning and reorganizing my garage and sewing room.  I will post photos soon (sewing space isn't quite done to take photos yet)!  I needed a little crafty break so I made some pincushions!  Where I live, there are a ton of antique stores so I bought the bases at an antique store and made these today!  I think they turned out so cute!  What do you think??

New Book

In the mail today I received this book that I won over at Sew Mama Sew!  I never win anything so I was super excited when they emailed me!  Check their website out...there is lots of good stuff over there! Anywho, the book is Joel Dewberry's Sewn Spaces and I thought I'd share some of the cute household projects that are in it!

Cute Farmers Market Tote....I'm definitely making one of these!

Pocket Memo Board....such a neat idea to keep all of your projects organized!

Reversible Fabric Boxes...I can see these in my bathroom already! :)

Bird Sachet...these are just the cutest little birds!

There are many more projects in this book and I can't wait to get started on them!

Cute, cute, cute

My nephew Jordan turns 1 at the beginning of August (can't believe it)!!  His mommy decided on a sock monkey birthday party.  So, I made sock monkey shirts for Jordan and his brother Xavier.  You can't make one brother a shirt without making one for the other :)  Jordan's is blue and Xavier's is red!  I'll post a photo of the boys wearing their shirts as soon as their awesome photographer mommy takes them! No rush Rachel ;)

I made this cute little clutch for our anniversary yesterday!  We had such a great anniversary yesterday!  We went out for steaks and I got to sew during the day while my hubby was at work!  Here is a link to the tutorial if ya'll wanna make one too!  It was really easy and super cute!  FYI: I used Anna Maria Horner fabrics for this clutch and I love the way it turned out!

Felt Food Fun

So my little buddy (aka my nephew Xavier) LOVES to "cook" right now!  At his Grandma's house they have a really cool play kitchen and lots of play food.  So his mommy got the idea to make some felt food.  We had such a good time making food for him (at least after both boys went down for a nap).  Here are some photos from our day!

Personalized lunch bags one for Xavier, one for Jordan
Cookies made by Rachel.....didn't she do awesome?  I think these turned out so cute! And they made us want sugar cookies the whole time!

Xavier "cooking"

grilled chicken breast sandwich...we didn't have the right color felt for turkey or ham so we made a healthier choice of grilled chicken breast!
Jordan loves to cook too!!  This carrot is the perfect fit for his little hand!
(by the way I might be totally biased...BUT I think I have the CUTEST nephews EVER!!)

so many options...

peanut butter and jelly!

look at those pickles....that's for you Uncle Jon since you LOVE pickles we
made sure he had some to play with!!

Grilled chicken breast, cheese, lettuce, tomato, pickles!

Looks like a yummy lunch!

Delicious!

Tomato, Carrot and Strawberries

Love this face!! Thanks X for being a great felt food model!

Hope you enjoy all the food boys....more will be coming!  Love ya'll both tons!!
