Pathway Through The Stars and a Craftsy Class

A few months ago my guild, the STLMQG, issued a new challenge called The Ohio Star Challenge. The rules were to Make a Modern Quilt by using the Traditional Block "Ohio Star" and you can read more of the details here. Our meeting is tomorrow but I wanted to post about my quilt(s) today because tomorrow is going to be super busy/long and Sunday I probably won't have the energy to blog about it either.
This is what I came up with and my Dad named it Pathway Through The Stars! I loved how the first one turned out so much that I made a second one!

One of the reasons why Saturday is going to be so busy is that our best friend Matt is getting married to his beautiful bride Shannon. Their wedding colors are peacock colors so I pulled these solids to make a quilt for them! This was the second challenge quilt I made and I'm glad I did, because the Ohio Star stands out better using the solids than the prints. BUT I love them both equally and if it wasn't our best friends wedding I might keep this one! :) Love ya'll and can't wait to celebrate God's joining of two awesome people tomorrow!

Here is the back of the quilt and close up of the straight line quilting.

The second Pathway Through The Stars uses all prints! I have been hoarding some of these fabrics for YEARS and let me tell ya, it felt good (and a little scary) to cut into them!

I used a new Free Motion Quilting technique to quilt this and it was so fun with gorgeous results.
The awesome Angela Walters has a new class over on Craftsy called Dot to Dot Quilting. In the class she teaches how to FMQ these simple line designs with stunning outcomes! The class was really informative and fun. I found these designs to be simple and kinda relaxing! I also mixed in some other FMQ designs like pebbles and swirls.  I HIGHLY recommend this class and thanks Angela for another fun one! (Plus, it's on sale right now! So, hop on over and check it out!)
Below are photos of the quilting:

This will be a new pattern soon....let me get through this weekend first! I hope ya'll like it and thanks for the awesome challenge STLMQG!

Amy Butler Weekender Bag & a Coupon!!

My friend Angela Walters debuted her first fabric line called Textures with Art Gallery Fabrics back at Fall Market 2012. About a month ago she asked if I could make her a bag with her fabrics so she could carry it around at Spring Market. I said sure and she sent me some of her fabrics.
Before I show you the bag, let me just say that I love this fabric line! The fabrics were so much fun to work with and they are so pretty! You can check back to my post about an entire quilt I made using them HERE.
Ok, now for the bag! I made Amy Butler's Weekender Bag and I'm totally in love with it! It was really hard for me to send it to her, I wanted to keep it so bad!  I might just have to make myself another one using her fabrics!

I added some teal topstitching to add a little extra! Hope you enjoy your bag Angela!

Also, the nice people at Fairfield wanted to share this coupon with everyone who stopped by the Mirror Ball Blog Hop! I just received it last night and wanted to share it with ya'll!

Angela Walters Panel Challenge

About a month or so ago, Angela Walters sent me her panel and some fabrics from her Textures line for Art Gallery Fabrics to come up with something.
Before I show you what I came up with, make sure you stop by Angela's Blog to enter the Make it Right Panel Challenge yourself! There are lots of amazing prizes, including cash money!! Plus, I highly recommend buying her entire Textures line, the colors are gorgeous and there are some great prints!  Here are just a few of my favs...

Here is what the panel looks like:

I decided to cut up the panel and turn all of the squares into something else. I made HST (half square triangles), log cabin blocks out of the rectangle pieces, sliced some in half and added more fabrics to them, etc...
Here is the finished quilt that I came up with:

(ignore the sloppy picture, the dog walked over the quilt and I was on a chair too lazy to straighten it, plus it's been raining ALL day and I wasn't able to go outside)

I have so much fun cutting this a part without any sort of plan and just randomly sew it back together. What was even more fun for me was quilting this.  I've been wanting to practice my feather quilting more, especially after I took Angela's free motion feathers class on Craftsy! I quilted a huge diagonal feather with some swirls around the feather.

Thanks to my assistant Ozzie!

Now go buy yourself one of Angela's panels and enter the Make it Right Challenge!

Angela Walters

Sorry it's been so quiet around here for the past month or so.  My husband is a high school teacher/coach and we were finally able to vacation in July after football and baseball stuff was on a little break.  Anywho, I've been super busy around here with lots of fun/creative stuff happening....more on that another day.
Today, I was LUCKY enough to go hear Angela Walters speak and give a class on machine quilting!! AH, can you believe it?!?! For those of you who don't know who the talented Angela Walters is, I suggest going to her blog Quilting Is My Therapy and see all the fun stuff she's got going on over there! She has a blog where she tells you what she is up to, a portfolio of a bunch of her amazing work, and a fun quilting forum where you can connect with other quilters! She is an AMAZING machine quilter who quilts all of Tula Pink's quilts as well as a bunch of other really cool people. Her first book also came out this summer called Free Motion Quilting, which you can purchase here on Amazon or here on her blog to get a signed copy.  I HIGHLY recommend getting her book and I cannot wait for her next one to come out this fall!
Angela, it was a pleasure meeting you today and I learned so much from your class and presentation! Thanks for all your hard work and inspiring so many!
Enjoy the photos, I took a TON of photos of her in action but I'll only share a few today!
